The History of Bedok
Bedok was a hilly region before teh Housing and Development Board developed it into a new town in the early 1970's.

The hills were levelled and the earth was transported by conveyor belts to reclaim the sea at East Coast Park and Marina Parade.

The early settlers in Bedok loved in their own ethnic communities. The Malays, who were mostly fishermen, lived near the coast; wheras the Chinese, who were farmers, lived further inland in the area known today as Kampong Chai Chee.

Bedok New Town covers an area of about 9000 Hectares with 55,000 residential units and a host of amenities to be found in any modern town. It is home to some 250,000 people of different races living harmoniously together. The town centre is 12km from the city.
